FOSS XDS Analyzers use proprietary methods to set wavelength, bandwidth, and adjust the photometric scale for an absolute reference on reflectance instruments. Standards are a key part of this and are used to assure good instrument matching between like instruments. This assures good library and calibration transfer under all but the most difficult circumstances.
System II (6500-series) standards are not used to perform instrument adjustments. With System II instruments, the standards are used only to monitor the performance of the instrument on the photometric and wavelength scales. XDS standards are not suitable for use with System II instruments.
FOSS NIRSystems recommends yearly re-certification of the standard set. At this time, the entire standard set is inspected, cleaned, verified as conforming to proper optical measurements and is re-certified. A new calibration diskette (or mini-CD) is shipped with the standard set, which may be used for customer tests with the standards. While yearly re-certification is not strictly required, it is strongly suggested for users in regulated industries and provides assurance that the standards are still compliant.
FOSS NIRSystems does not sell single standards from sets and partial sets are not re-certified. The instrument configuration determines the type of standards used.
