The nutraceuticals industry has been experiencing a rapid growth and quality revolution. Raw material identification and qualification have already been implemented at many manufacturers' sites. This is in anticipation of new FDA rules on current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) for dietary supplements that applies to companies that manufacture dietary supplements.

Manufacturers will be compelled to evaluate the identity, purity, strength and composition of their dietary supplements. NIR can greatly reduce the analytical workload incurred by these requirements and enhance measurement capabilities. Tablets and capsules can be measured for content assay and identity non-destructively.

Common nutraceutical analytes include: raw material identification, moisture content and vitamin assay.
